It has been a while since we posted...

One of our friend have developed a great software called PeeKaWho.

When you are on your desktop, you have apps like google notification or Outlook email notification to notify you of incoming emails.
PeeKaWho is exactly that for your BlackBerry. This application is simple, to the point - making it a must have.

Try it out.

BlackBerry Unite! Review

After downloaded the 90 MB binary and installed it, here is a quick review:

1. Installation - Installation was not as painful as thought. If you have firewall / spy software installed, make sure you allow all the installation files to complete. For example, if you have ZoneAlarm, make sure you allow when the "Security Alert" pops up. It will install a webserver, database on your local PC. Basically, the BlackBerry Unite! runs a webserver and a database on your local PC.

Though you didn't have to, we restarted our machine after installation completed.

2. Setup - The admin console is over the web and setting up requires you connection your BB via USB to the PC that has United install

ed. After setup is finished, Unite! will install couple of icons on your BlackBerry:

3. The things you can do - As we said in the previous post, you can check phone logs of each registered BB (up to 5). You can add a calendar item on BB Unite, and it will automatically sync to all the registered BB (see pics of the web). Very cool. Best of all, you can download files on your PC via the Download Manager:

Download file

Cool huh! You gotta play with it.

Here is a pic of calendar sync:

Other stuff you can do:
- Share contacts with your family / business employees.
- Remote Unite! management from your BlackBerry.
- Block and filter websites visited on the BlackBerry.
- See history of URL visited on each registered BB.

Some words of caution
While setting up, Unite! will ask you if you want to add email address. If you already have emails setup on your BlackBerry (which you most likely already have), don't register the same email account that you already get on your BlackBerry, you will get double email from that account. For example, if you already get abc.def@gmail.com on your BlackBerry, don't register that same account, otherwise, you will get emails TWICE!!

Also, if you are running OS higher than 4.1, your device will be supported by BlackBerry Unite!. But, note that not all features are supported if you run below OS 4.3.

Overall impression

If you got wife and kids (each has individual BlackBerry) or 5 or less workers (equipped with BlackBerry) in your company AND you don't mind getting your hands dirty just a tad, Unite! is putting power in your hands. As we said, installation is rather painless and we think it is a great piece of software for FREE! We say download it, try it, and see it for yourself.

Oh yeah, you gotta leave that PC that you just installed United! on constantly, or else none of this stuff will work ;) Of course, you already know that.

ENJOY!

BlackBerry Unite! - Finally Released

Back a few months ago, RIM announced a home version of the BlackBerry Server. What did it do? It allows you and your busy family members (who all have BB themselves) to do the following:

- Share Calendar
- Share pictures, documents, music, videos
- Restrict certain websites access for younger members of the family
- Monitor phone usage (good for moms and dads of teenagers)

Of course, this is great for small business.

We are downloading the trying it as we speak, we'll give you our review soon.

It's User Preference Stupid!

Yes, the "new" iPhone 3G came out this past week. Big yaahoo! Here at BlackBerryGoodies.com, we try to be bias (despite our name) in this post....and give you our two cents on iPhone vs. BlackBerry

When the very first iPhone first came out back in 2007, many analysts were saying that iPhone was this and that, and it will dominate the market of smartphone. Fast forward a year, with the release of 3G iPhone, BlackBerry are still selling like hotcakes. At the last quarterly earnings, RIM's revenue increased 100% compared to a year before.

On the other hand, when the BlackBerry Bold was announced, many were calling it a "iPhone killer". Now, we saw the Bold back at the BlackBerry conference, it was cool, sleek, and even sexy, but an iPhone killer? The point is, comparing QWERTY and touch screen is comparing oranges to apples. Non sequitur!

It is a matter of user preferences. Business users who emails and calendar all day would probably not get an iPhone for obvious reason. Likewise, an eighteen year old girl who listens to music and watch videos all day would not get a BlackBerry. Again, USER PREFERENCE.

And now that there are rumors of touch screen BlackBerry- BlackBerry Thunder, many are thinking which would "win". Well, that is a better comparison against the iPhone. Of course, RIM is still not acknowledging the fact that they are developing the BlackBerry Thunder, but thanks to rogue RIM employees, and Crackberry.com, we have these eye candy to drool over!! enjoy.

Listen to tunes on your BB on other stereo system, wireless

Check this out:

This little 2" by 2" device will allow you to stream the music stored on your BlackBerry (microsd) and play it on any stereo system. If your car has a 3.5mm stereo aux port (which many cars today do), this device can turn your BlackBerry into a music jukebox!!

Although made by RIM (makers of BlackBerry), this works for any device that supports A2DP.

Get it right! - First 3G BlackBerry Device is NOT the Bold

Alright, we need to set this straight....

We've heard many are saying that RIM came out with first 3G device faster than Apple, referring to the BlackBerry Bold. While the faster part comparing RIM to Apple is true. BUT, RIM has been releasing 3G device since 2005, when RIM rolled out the 7130e on Verizon's EV-DO network.

In fact, BlackBerry Bold is the 8th 3G device put out by RIM. Bold is the first 3G BlackBerry for AT&T. So, get it right people!!

No, we are not feeling pedantic, not one bit ;)

BlackBerry Bold: aka BlackBerry 9000 is now here

Folks, check this out! RIM officially released the long rumored BlackBerry 9000 and named it as BlackBerry Bold. With all the previous rumors of being delayed, well, RIM's kick-ass looking Smartphone is finally here. And to showcase it, RIM updated their website.

BlackBerry Bold

The news has been accepted well with RIM's shareholders with a vote of almost 5% jump on their share price as of this writing.

What a way to kickoff the Wireless Enterprise Symposium. Speaking of WES, the folks at BlackBerryGoodies are already at Orlando, Florida to witness and give you folks the updates. More to come...

I'm sure you've heard the phrase "Power By TellMe" when you phone into places like Amtrak o check on train status or your bank of choice to find out balance.

TellMe, a subsidiary of Microsoft, has a free download for BlackBerry devices.

Instead of typing, you can press the Send key on your BlackBerry and speak instead of type the input. We found that this was extremely useful while driving or doing other tasks.

Being too productive may lead to Email Bankruptcy...

Research from University of Michigan shows that average middle class today are doing much more than middle class from 10 years ago. In fact, it would take middle class from 1998 31 hours to complete what middle class today complete in 24 hours.

That is all fine and great...however, the research also shows that we are at a peak level for multi-task...and some people would not be able to handle all this multitasking and might eventual have "Email Bankruptcy". EB just means you stop caring about your online aspect of life and shut off yourself from it completely, which at times, does not sound like a bad thing!!

Then again, for now, we can physically separate ourselves from our online life, but wait until Wetware! Imagine, emails sent to your brain directly, reply to email without having to type, just think and it will happen. We will then REALLY be productive, but might not be able to shutoff our life online that easily. To shut-off emails to your brain, you might have to consult your IT "Doctor" for a tuning ;)For more, read this article:
